John Legend was somehow dragged into Kanye West‘s ongoing Twitter tirade, but he doesn’t seem to mind.
The 39-year-old singer recently reached out his friend through text in light of the rapper’s controversial comments regarding President Donald Trump, urging Kanye to rethink his ringing endorsement for the Commander-in-Chief. However, his private plea was leaked online when Ye posted their entire conversation on Twitter.
Calling into Hot 97 on Friday, April 27, he clarified the exchange to radio show host Ebro Darden.
“I’m not mad people saw it because at least they know where I’m coming from. I didn’t actually mind it after I thought about it for a second, but I was shocked when it first happened,” John, who has been extremely vocal against the POTUS’ policies, said. “I think Kanye, when he talks about Trump, he’s thinking about him more as a marketing triumph.”
He continued, “I think he sees certain aspects of himself in Trump. He sees how brash he is and that he doesn’t give a f**k, how nobody believed he was gonna win. How he defied all the odds and became president.”

John’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, also didn’t have a problem with Kanye sharing the “A Good Night” crooner’s texts. In fact, she poked fun of it when the “Famous” hitmaker released more private messages.
“This is the most elaborate and complex google pixel phone ad I have ever seen,” she quipped, noting how John was using an Android phone to text Kanye. (You can tell by how Kanye’s texts changed from blue to green.)
“And since you’re posting texts, let me added that I have a new single out haha,” John wrote.
Just a fun side-note: the music video for John’s new single was shot on a Google Pixel 2 — so there’s also that.
